## MiKTeX update

The XeTeX binary that is now included with the latest MiKTeX distribution can correctly process square roots. Unfortunately, we have discovered that the unicode-math package has some problems, but people are working on them. So hopefully, XeLaTeX users will have a fully functional package really soon.

## MiKTeX’s XeTeX is/was buggy

Everyone using MiKTeX’s XeTeX that has been released before 2008-01-05 should be aware that XeLaTeX cannot cimpile the following sample file:

\documentclass[a4paper]{article}
\usepackage{fontspec}
\usepackage[math-style=tex]{unicode-math}
\begin{document}
\setmainfont{Verdana}
\setmathfont{Asana Math}
simple mathematics
\begin{displaymath}
\sqrt{\sin^{2}x+\cos^{2}x}=1.
\end{displaymath}
\end{document}
The error was reported to the MiKTeX forum and Christian Schenk promised to release correct binaries as soon as possible. And do not forget: to err is human.
